Faithful God. That is one of His names. Yet, so often I don't take God at his word. The result? I doubt his faithfulness. I gain needless anxiety and lack of peace in my soul and often in my home.
Is God a Faithful God?
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. Matthew 21:22
The death of my computer was a great blow to me. As a homeschool and ministry mom I use it A LOT, not to mention the websites and bookstore we run, blogging, and curriculum writing!
I was claiming Matthew 21:22 long before my computer became a water spill casualty that hot day three springs ago. I was claiming it (and still am) because we have a large Spanish homeschool curriculum project on our hands. We had been praying for God's provision at the right time to get these materials on the market that summer. You can't sell what you don't have, can you?
Doubting his Faithfulness
To my shame, I'll admit, I just couldn't see the way God was going to take care of this need. And even though I was extremely thankful that we were able to save the hard drive, and none of my files were lost, for a couple of days I was very discouraged.
I knew that on our ministry salary, we weren't going to be able to afford even a refurbished laptop for a very long time.
Faithful Reminders
My favorite verse of all times is
1 Thessalonians 5:24 – Faithful is He that calleth you who also will do it.
God brought this verse to mind again that week and reminded me that if he had called me to these ministries, he could make a way to do them, even if that meant without a computer.
That was a great test of faith for me as I sincerely wanted to believe that God would provide the necessary means for his work, but I couldn't see how he could do it.
You know how you expect things to happen sometimes and yet somehow you're still shocked when they do?
Proven Faithfulness
One week after the water incident claimed the life of my computer, two emails arrived within 24 hours of each other letting us know that funds were on their way!
Not only was my faithful God sending us a gift card large enough to purchase a new laptop, but He was also sending other funds to cover some other personal needs we had but had not told anyone about! To top it off, the day I went to purchase the new computer someone else handed me a second gift card!
In the end, God allowed us to buy a brand new, upgraded laptop that Spring with no cash ever changing hands, and I still had $30 left on the gift card! That is what He delights to do for his children!
I shouldn't have been, but I was shocked (and humbled) by His love and abundant blessing! I saw my faith in God's provision, and the faith of my family increase tremendously through that experience!
Trusted Faithfulness
Today, we have a completed preschool through sixth grade homeschool curriculum, the news of which has reached more than 10 Spanish speaking countries. The business side of the curriculum ministry is small but growing and we still pray believing with expectation and with more confidence than ever before that our faithful God WILL provide for His work in His time for the glory of His own name!
What is it that God has asked you to do friend, and you feel inadequate or don't see how it will happen? Rest assured, God is not slack concerning his promises. Be encouraged.
He is faithful!
