“Come and listen to my fearful tale of the ocean blue;
How a man got swallowed by a whale! Yes! I know it's true!”
And so begins one of my favorite childhood songs, and one of my children's favorite songs…
There is MUCH to learn from the biblical story of Jonah, and from the study of great fish! The world has been fascinated with them for many years. Today's What to Read Wednesday features books about the Biblical Jonah story, as well as a few about great fish!
If you are looking for books on other topics, please check out our full list here.
Our featured post from last week is Activities for What Pet Should I Get? from Sight and Sound Reading. Each week we feature one of the links from the week before, so, if you are a blogger, feel free to link up your family friendly posts below:
Jonah Books
That song I mentioned… It's on this CD by Patch the Pirate (Majesty Music). Their character building songs and drama adventures are fabulous for getting God's Word and biblical values into the hearts and minds of children.
The Book of Jonah by Peter Spier – we love his books! The Noah one is fabulous as well! So much going on in the illustrations, the story practically tells itself!
The Hard to Swallow Tale of Jonah and the Whale by Joyce Denham
Whales and Great Fish Books
Flip Nicklin has spent his whole life photographing whales. He even was the whale photographer for National Geographic. His stories in these books are pretty large to say the least.
A wordless book by Vita Murrow about two young boys determined to find a whale
DK Eyewitness Book about Fish
Usborne also has a couple of great children's encyclopedias containing ocean information.
- First Encyclopedia of Seas and Oceans
- Children's First Encyclopedia with internet links
- Secrets of the Seashore, Shine a light book
