Just before we officially began our school year this year, we had the awesome opportunity to visit the Mayan Riviera on a homeschool vacation with some other families. Part of the package that Azul Hotels put together for us was a day excursion to Indiana Joe's Aktun Chen Natural Park, complete with a mini zoo, a cenote, zip lines and a cave science tour!
Because I knew we would be studying Earth and Space with Bright Ideas Press Christian Kids Explore Science this year, I was especially excited for our kids to have this opportunity to live cave science! So when we got to this part of our science book recently, we pulled out all of these photos again to re-live and really understand what we were learning.
The diagrams in the Christian Kids Explore Science Earth and Space book along with the recent experience of actually visiting a cave and remembering through the photos really brought this lesson alive to us. And my kids now know the meanings of the words stalactite, stalagmite, column, calcite and dissolve. Thank you Bright Ideas Press!
So whether it's caves, animals, weather, technology, or whatever it is, I highly recommend you plan a field trip to a related location sometime during the school year. Real life experiences always enrich the academic experience!
