We have been seeing our thermometer drop all the way down below 80 F here the last few days! That means fewer bugs, fewer sweaty days, and hot chocolate are soon in store for us! Our winter in the tropics may have finally begun!
Every year, sometime after the Thanksgiving table has been cleared and leftovers stored away, we get out our Christmas tree and begin to build our suedo-fireplace. We don't have real fireplaces here, so we create one each year to add to the holiday atmosphere, and besides, everyone needs a place to hang a stocking, right?!
One thing I look forward to each winter is cozying up on the couch with pillows, blankets, and hot chocolate to read a good book in the twinkling light of the tree! Because we don't have an English bookstore within a 2 days drive, I am so thankful for our kindle because it allows us to get English books quickly and without importation fees!
This week, we're taking advantage of the Ultimate Christian Bundle Sale, a whole library of ebooks and resources at a 96% discount (but only through midnight tonight!). So, here are the 5 books for winter I am most looking forward to enjoying curled up in from of our make-believe fire in the just-under-80's Mexican winter weather this holiday season:
1. The Bible Incorporated in your Life, Job & Business, by Michael Q. Pink
Bible Incorporated is a bestseller, addressing 101 work- and business-related topics. No fluff. No hedging on the issues. Nothing but pure Scripture compiled in a conversational format. This book has been featured on numerous radio and television programs over the years and is a popular graduation gift for students. Best of all, it’s written in a “reader friendly” format making it easy to understand and relate to regardless of your work or calling. Over 400,000 copies sold worldwide.
2. Pearl in the Sand by Tessa Afshar
Can a Canaanite harlot who has made her livelihood by looking desirable to men make a fitting wife for one of the leaders of Israel? Shockingly, the Bible’s answer is yes. Pearl in the Sand tells Rahab’s untold story. Rahab lives in a wall; her house is built into the defensive walls of the City of Jericho. Other walls surround her as well-walls of fear, rejection, unworthiness. A woman with a wrecked past; a man of success, of faith… of pride; a marriage only God would conceive! Through the heartaches of a stormy relationship, Rahab and Salmone learn the true source of one another’s worth and find healing in God.
3. Intentional Marriage, a 31-day Devotional by Crystal Brothers
Marriage is a beautiful thing. God saw that it wasn’t good for man to be alone and so he created him a helpmeet. Throughout Scripture, marriage is shown as a parallel to the sacrificial and unconditional love that Christ has for his church. But what about the times when marriage doesn’t feel so beautiful? What if it gets lost in the shuffle of life, jobs, kids, and bills …and sometimes it just doesn’t seem worth the effort? Then it’s time to get intentional. Love is an action more than a feeling. An intentional marriage is based on the decision to love your husband, regardless of how you might feel. AnIntentional Marriage means that you are making a choice every day to put him first, and to demonstrate your love. This ebook offers 31 daily readings with Scripture application and a specific challenge to inspire you to be intentional in loving and serving your husband.
4. Teaching Your Child to Pray by Rick Osborne
Prayer is the foundation for communicating with God, growing as a person, and receiving help and wisdom for every other part of life. Teaching children to pray is one of the most important tasks parents have. Inside Teaching Your Child to Pray you will find: answers to your children’s questions about prayer, practical tips, helps, and activities for teaching the discipline of prayer, what the Bible says about children and prayer, stories and examples of how prayer works, and ways to reap the benefits of prayer for your children and see it affect their lives. Give your children a real head start. Teach them to communicate with the Savior. It will make an eternal difference.
5. Because I Said So, by Kim Sorgius
Journey through Scripture and learn about people who struggled with obedience in this 26-page Bible study that includes HOW, WHY, and WHEN we should obey. Children will be challenged to seek answers in the Bible for the number one issue in their lives: obedience. Each day of the Because I Said So study is filled with a look at someone in the Bible who had real struggles just like they do. Children will be challenged to think about the Scripture and apply it to their lives. There are two versions of the study included. One is written for 3rd-6th grade students to work through independently or for a family to work through together. The junior version is written for children ages 4-7 to work through with a parent. Both versions align for a seamless family study. If you work 20-30 minutes a day, the flexible schedule will span about 3-4 weeks.
And I'm looking forward to reading while listening to the new-to-us piano music of Stanton Lanier! I was so excited to find his album A Thousand Years included in this bundle too!
In A Thousand Years, Stanton interweaves Scripture-inspired piano compositions with unique arrangements of timeless classical and hymn melodies. This album combines music from seven renowned hymns and five of the world’s greatest classical composers (Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart and Pachelbel) with eleven original works. This resulted in fresh experiences of joy, peace and hope for Stanton to share with you.
