Your budget is already stretched thin with Christmas decorations and gifts. Now it's time to host a Christmas party and you need to keep things under $99. Here is our plan for a Fun and Frugal Camel Themed Christmas Party even Humphrey would approve of.
1. Theme the Party Around a Good Book
Humphrey's First Christmas is a big family favorite at our house. It's a highly entertaining telling of the Greatest Story of all time as told by Humphrey, an ornery camel in the Wise Men's band. Read the book aloud for your guests with great drama in a storyteller circle.
Optional entertainment could be provided by someone dressed up as a camel with a blanket prop, acting out the story as it's read to the group.
- Book: $7 paperback with prime shipping
- Camel Outfit: $10
Make it extra special: If you have Frankincense resin or Frankincesnse and Myrrh essential oils, bring them out for the guests to smell and experience.
2. Include a Fun Game
Divide participants into 2 teams. Each team is asked a question about the story and if answered correctly get a chance to throw an Inflatable Snowball into the bin. The first team to get 3 in a row wins and get to go first to the Hot Chocolate Bar.
See a list of other fun Christmas games here.
- Questions/answers: $0
- SnowBall game: $17
3. Have an Ice Cream or Hot Chocolate Bar
A sweets bar is a big hit at any gathering. We had one our last blogging retreat even.
Rock Candy Sticks and Peppermint Spoons are a must have in our book. I mean when else do you get to enjoy these?
- Rock Candy: $12
- Peppermint Spoons: $12
- Instant Hot Chocolate: $12
4. Give Them Something Christmasy To Do!
Now that the Hot Chocolate is served, put on some Christmas music and get them working on a craft like the Camel Clothespin Craft or this Joy to the World Sign Kit.
- Camel Craft $8
- Sign craft $10
If your people are not into crafts, try one of these family friendly Christmas movies.
5. Send them Out with Meaningful Gift
And finally, send everyone off with (their crafts and) this sweet reminder of God's greatest gift at Christmas: Candy Canes!
- Scripture packaged candy canes $6
Your total, including the optional camel costume? $94
Taking a dozen kids to the movies would cost more than this when you factor in the gas, tickets, food and dinner out afterwards. All it takes is a bit of creative and the right resources and I think you'll find a frugal Christmas party a total possibility, and way more fun!
