Geography is a subject that is easily put on the back burner, but it doesn't have to be a difficult subject to teach. A curriculum isn't even necessary. Your student can learn a lot about basic geography from games and puzzles. Fun songs and videos on YouTube can help with learning states, capitals, and countries.
For older students you can take geography a step further. Make a geography notebook. It can be as simple or elaborate as you want. Buy a 3 ring binder and let them add notebook pages and reports, to a design and print your own book project using Shutterfly or Create Space.
Let them pick a new country each week to learn about. You can stick to one continent, or have them pick from a different continent each week. Once they know what country they want to learn about, print off this FREE Country Notebooking Page and have them fill it out with the information they have learned about their chosen country.
They can fill in a little bit each day, or take one day a week and focus on geography. This notebooking page will have them filling out basic information about the country, including information about current leaders. They will also draw the country and the flag.
Learning about a new country each week will help your students see how large and diverse our world is in a simple way.
