I had been considering Bright Ideas Press materials for this school year, but when we were given the materials for Christian Kids Explore Science: Earth and Space, I had no idea the excitement for learning it would create in our home.
A science notebook was new and exciting for my little people, especially when I printed a color cover off the student activity book CD that came with the curriculum, and they could personalize it with their names!
In the very first lesson we learned about God creating the earth and very shortly thereafter, we got to color in the five different layers of the earths crust on a diagram. But the real excitement began when we went shopping for modeling clay.
This was a new experience and not only were we “playing with play dough” in science class, we were using five different colors all at once to make a model of the earth! Flower got all excited and even tried to add the green land masses to the blue top crust to make it look more “world-like”.
Then we got out dental floss and cut away a portion of one of the balls to reveal all five colors/layers of the earth's crust. It was so cool! It was just like the diagram! Inner core, outer core, lower mantle, upper mantle and crust!
Next up we get to study caves, which is great because we just had a field trip to a cave as part of our Mexico Family Vacation right before school started. We are all looking forward to learning more about what we saw and experienced there.
