Today on What to Read Wednesday
I'm sharing some of my favorite Christmas Read Aloud books. One of the great benefits of Children's literature is the memories that are made as children and adults read together, cuddled together, talking together, viewing the illustrations together, laughing and crying together, etc. Long after they forget the book's title, they will remember those times with you. Don't neglect those precious times with your children this holiday season.
Our Favorite Christmas Read Alouds (or sing alouds, as the case may be) Are:
Secular:
Frosty the Snowman (song picture book) – love this b/c it actually has the music printed in the back of the book!
The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore, illustrated by Mary Engelbreit (poetry) – M. Engelbreit's illustrations are some of my favorite! So happy, and so busy! There's a lot to see in this classic Christmas poetry book.
Bear Stays Up for Christmas by Karma Wilson (animal story) – Sweet story about friendship and giving.
Religious:
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson (a classic story, chapter book) – This story will resonate with children and adults alike as a church Christmas play teaches meaningful lessons about God, life, and loving others.
The Very First Christmas Story by Paul L. Maer – the illustrations of this Biblical story are impressive. Sure to capture the interest of anyone, and the telling is close to the the Biblical text.
The Candymaker's Gift: A Legend of the Candy Cane by David & Helen Haidle – The Gospel story told in sweets. An all time favorite of our family!
