One of the best ways to teach kids character is to teach them of God's character. When they see him for who he is is and recognize his working in their lives it inspires and instructs them in changing their beliefs about God and themselves, which in turn changes their behavior.
You want someone to recognize counterfeit bills, you drill the in how to recognize the true bills.
You want someone to recognize bad literature, you teach them the qualities of the best literature.
You want someone to recognize bad character, and avoid it, you teach them to know and love God.

How do you build character in kids?
Here are ten ways you can build character in kids.
- Teach them about God through Scripture.
- Have them memorize verses that talk of who God is and what he does for us.
- Do Bible studies together that focus on different attributes of God's character – like the studies listed below.
- Have them create a concordance notebook, writing down verses as they find them in sections under patience, truth, forgiveness, etc.
- Teach them songs that glorify God for his characteristics.
- Reward good character and correct bad character, always pointing them back to our example, God.
- Teach them to “see” God's hand at work in everyday circumstances. (That means you need to see it too).
- Teach them the stories of God's mighty works in the past.
- Teach them of others who've exemplified good character in their lives.
- And perhaps the most important – model good character yourself.
