Through the early years of my marriage the following Bible verses for wives (and many more) were on my mind and in my heart constantly. I whispered them daily to remind myself of God's plan for me as a wife.
Though my marriage didn't look like God's design for marriage, I knew that He was faithful. I clung to His word knowing that He could turn the ashes of my life into a beautiful creation.
I'm so thankful that I held tightly to the Word of God in those difficult years of marriage. Thirteen years later, I am blessed to call my husband my best friend. It was a long road, but God turned my life into beautiful ashes.
Bible Verses for Wives
God's Calling for Wives
“And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should
be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” Genesis
Instructions for Wives
“Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and
likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of
her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not
power of his own body, but the wife. Defraud yet not one the other,
except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to
fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not
for your inconsistency.” 1 Corinthians 7:3-5
“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of
the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church
is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in
everything.” Ephesians 5:22-24
“Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands;
that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won
by the conversation of the wives; While they behold your chaste conversation
coupled with fear. Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of
plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of
apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible,
even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of
God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also,
who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their
own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose
daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any
amazement.” 1 Peter 3:1-6
Warnings for Wives
“And unto Adam he said, Because thou has hearkened unto
the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, saying, Thou shalt
not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou
eat of it all the days of thy life;” Genesis 3:17
“A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing.”
“…the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping. House and
riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the
Lord.” Proverbs 19:13b-14
“It is better to dwell in a corner of the housetop, than with a
brawling woman in a wide house.” Proverbs 21:9
Blessings for Wives
“A gracious woman retaineth honour…” Proverbs 11:16a
“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh
ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.” Proverbs 12:4
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down
with her hands.” Proverbs 14:1
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of
the Lord.” Proverbs 18:22
“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The
heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have
no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of
her life.” Proverbs 31:10-12
“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time
to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the
law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and
eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her
blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.” Proverbs 31:25-28
“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the
Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and
let her own works praise her in the gates.” Proverbs
Special Verses for Wives
“And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of
my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall
cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.” Genesis 2:23-24
“Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy
children like olive plants round about thy table.” Psalm 128:3
“Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.
Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant roe; let her breasts
satisfy thee at all times and be thou ravished always with her love.”
Marriage is one of the most important relationships we can have on this earth. God designed marriage to mirror the relationship between Christ and the Church. It is a holy relationship, one that should not be taken lightly.
Being married is not always easy. There will be difficult roads to walk and challenging situations to muddle through. When we're faced with these moments we must remember that God does not ask us to do them alone. He has given us all the directions and encouragement that we need. We just have to pull out His Word, the Bible, to find them!
