Welcome to What to Read Wednesday! You've heard that the best book for children may be the Wordless Book? Today, I want to propose that the best picture books for boys, may be ones that use only the pictures of their imaginations.
In his post, The Secret of Aslan, David Mathis recounts his experience of reading C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe to his young boys. Could it be that the imagery of the mind makes the story that much more exciting? Could it be that part of why we can so easily see the correlations between the Lion and Jesus Christ is that there are no pictures to distract from their similar characteristics?
Well, perhaps you'll think that one over. In the mean time, adventure calls to us all, and what kinds of picture books will enrapture our boys, teach them character and call them abroad to adventures of their own? Here are some of our favorite picture books for boys!
Weslandia by Paul Fleischman
The Adventures of TinTin
Paddle-to-the-Sea by Holling C. Holling
