The itsy bitsy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain, and washed the spider out.
Out came the sun, and dried up all the rain
and the itsy bitsy spider said: “I did NOT just do that!”
No wait – that’s what I said when the sounds of another drenching reached me after having just finished hanging up not one, but two loads of laundry. AGAIN.
Rain is odd for this time of year in tropical Mexico. I don’t think it rained at all last January. But last week it took me three days to get a load of towels dry. Each time the skies cleared and I hung them out, and each time down came the rain.
A lot like our spiritual life right? We feel like we just got the hang of things, just met a goal, just conquered ___________, and then Woosh! Down comes the rain.
The thing is He desires this for me. This was in His perfect plan. I can choose to see Him even in the rain, even with wet laundry and more work ahead of me. I can choose to give thanks and live joy.
Today I am thankful that God sovereignly controls the rain of my physical and spiritual life. And I’m thankful for his promise found in Isaiah 43:1-3a
