“Just get up every morning
and do the next right thing.”
– Michael Schoneweis
This quote from a friend of ours has been the focusing lens through many of our storms. The reminder I need to grab up my wayward thoughts and set them to seeking the answer to the obvious question: What is the next right thing?
What does God require of me? I love it when God answers clearly.
He has shown thee O man (woman) what is good. And what does the Lord require of thee, but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God. (Micah 6:8)
Q: How do I act justly?
A: Direct/teach well my household. Keep God's ways. Judge justly. Deal honestly with others.
For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the Lord, to do justice and judgment; that theLord may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him. (Genesis 18:19)
But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee. (Deuteronomy 15:15)
Q: How do I love mercy?
A: Show mercy. Be loving. Speak truth. forgive.
Blessed are the merciful; for they shall obtain mercy. (Matthew 5:10)
Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful (Luke 6:36)
Withhold not thou thy tender mercies from me, O Lord: let thy lovingkindness and thy truth continually preserve me. (Psalm 40:11)
Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. (Psalm 51:1)
Q: How do I walk humbly with God?
A:Remember the works of God in the past. Remember the tests and provisions and the unexplainable things He has done. Trust Him instead of myself. Live by His Words.
And thou shalt remember all the way which the Lord thy God led thee these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep his commandments, or no. And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live. (Deuteronomy 8:2-3)
