Today's What to Read highlight is Music. Have you ever heard a song in a different language, maybe even a language you didn't understand, and yet you knew the song, and it spoke to your heart? Music is the universal language, created by God, for his own enjoyment and for ours. It's also a scientifically proven fact that listening to and playing music, makes you smarter.
We love music around here, listening, playing, and reading about music. The girls and I are all taking violin lessons this semester and Sir has just started piano, but we also love to read books about music. Here are just a few of our favorites:
Animal Orchestra by Llo Orleans
The Raffi Songs to Read Seriesis a great one for reading and singing with your little one. Our favorites are the Wheels on the Bus, and Down by the Bay
Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae – This is one of my absolute favorites! I love it's message that you are unique with unique talents given to you by your Creator, and just because you can't do everything everyone else does, doesn't mean you are not special.
M is for Melody – a Musical Alphabet (beautiful illustrations and delightful rhyme)
Those Amazing Musical Instruments! – this one is good for teaching about the instruments and the orchestra. It has diagrams of the different parts and the CD even lets you hear the sounds!
And if you don't think music is powerful, or don't see the value of practicing, maybe you should watch this:
