A great way to inspire kids
Something happens to us as children when we read about other children who shared similar experiences as a child and yet were able to do or accomplish great things.
There is a spark of hope within us that ignites the fuel of motivation and inspiration when we hear of other's who have struggled, and persevered, and triumphed. Historical biographies are a great way to hear those stories and be inspired to greatness by them.
Because Grandparents Day is coming up on Sunday, I wanted to mention that if you have a grandparent still living, it can be an invaluable treasure to get them to record their memories either written or audibly and be able to read/listen to historical biography of their life and world events through the eyes of someone you know and love.
For published biographies, YWAM is a Christian company that does a great job using the Heroes of History to inspire the heroes of tomorrow. This is by far our favorite set of historical biographies for kids.
Both the Heroes of History and the Christian Heroes books are best for solo reading for kids middle elementary on up, but can be enjoyed by the entire family and make great read alouds to be used with kids as young as 4 or 5 too. They also have a set of Heroes for Young Readers that tells the story in picture book form through rhyme as well as audio books and unit study guides.
